6 days of trip passed by in a blur. Not too long, but not too short either. Just nice for us to walk until our legs maxed out each day.
And the deepest impression that was left on me was not the elegant“華” China pavilion, nor the very impressive corporate pavilions, and no, not our own Singapore pavilion (though flashing our oh-so-powerful passport was a definite bonus).
It was the Switzerland pavilion. Not just because we queued twice for the pavilion (horrors of horror!!!) but because the expo made me miss Switz soooooooooooo soooo much. Shanghai reminds me too much of Switz!! The fact that people were speaking french left right centre didn't help. Everywhere I turned, the foreigners were speaking french. Even the person I asked to help us take a photo spoke french! Imagine my horror when I realized that I got to put my french into use.. 詞窮 ah!!! :s Not to mention that the couple actually had limited english vocab.. With MY limited french vocab and jabbling around, it was a wonder they could understand me. It was more amazing to me that they actually didn't looked surprised when I spoke french to them!
It was amazing to the local Chinese that we could speak mandarin, though. @_@ I supposed they just didn't have any expectations of us wahahaha. We had such a good time with the locals over @ Hangzhou! And they were so warm and friendly, making us feel like true tourists :D
The fish we brought back was an added bonus =D Can't believe they survived the entire flight of different temperatures, pressures and all the jostling and tossing around in our shopping bags and luggage. But apparently, it's either bad handling or the tossing finally got to them, for 2/4 fish RIP-ed this morning. :( SHOULD have listened to my instincts yesterday night and leave them in containers. But well.. At least I have 2 more now.
As with all trips, the best part is always making new friends and gaining new insight about the culture, and experiencing it first hand (at least, that matters to me). We made friends, I totally experienced and gained NEW insight - both good and bad. And this has spurred me on to make traveling once a year my aim from now on! The trip has made me realize that the world is way too vast, because we couldn't even finish the puny pavilions that was in all, just Tampines area + 2 sq km. I wanna walk the world and experience everything under the sun.. :D
