And I swear upon that.
We had our LJ at North Vista Primary School yesterday, and everything was fantastic. Not just the, erm, wake up at 7.45 instead of 6.45 part, not just the left at 4.20 and reached home at 5 part, but also the entire process!
That said, it's still super shiok to wake up late and reach home at 5 ♥
But I digress.
So I started off with reaching at 9 because I factored in 20 minutes for being late. And thanks to maps, I no longer will be lost anywhere! <3 to brillant turn-by-turn navigation from Google. (it was just a straight road down in the end anyway -_-)
We sat in the parents session and listened to the principal sell his school to the parents, and the parents addressing some of the concerns they had. All I can say is, those questions wouldn't have appeared 10-15 yrs ago, the evolution of parents and the new age of kiasu-ism! Singapore's mentality needs to change, else there's no way parents will stop being kiasu - it's nearly a sin if you leave your child out of preparation programmes and while the rest of the world are doing sums your kid is still - ing.
Went for a tour of the school after that, and all I can say is: Fantastic. The school really does exceed my entire expectations of how a primary school should be like now (or is it that I was just a being a frog?) In any case, I applaud the school for the thinking and the innovation which turned it into the school it is today. Lunch was after the awesome tour and we had a couple of activities after that, which had me mask taping everything in sight, but it was just random fun and yup, yesterday was indeed a good day. :)
Wii stations and getting authority over how their library should look like! I like.
I also like how they brought up their students to be inquisitive and totally comfortable in the presence of outsiders, how they train their students to be outspoken, with self confidence and with their 4 little rules of
1) I love myself
2) I love my friends
3) I love my school and
4) I love my nation
Which is so simple for students but yet encompasses everything else that other schools go "don't do this, not allowed to do that". Simple and effective. I like.
And everyone can see that I'm sold with this school's methodology. =) Reggio Emilia is indeed a good approach. If I had been brought up in this kind of environment, I would like to see that I would have turned out very differently indeed.
That's it, I'm not gonna send my future kid to a conventional school!
